Iain Fraser: Protoplaces
Gallery Talk, 5:30p; Reception, 6:00-8:00p
Iain Fraser's three-dimensional works blur the distinction between architecture and art. Forged from cut steel, wood, concrete and glass, they are both discrete pieces and suggested propositions for bigger or smaller places.
"I'm not particularly concerned about the borders between art and architecture," says Fraser. "I see it all as one experience." Instead, Fraser explores the nature of place. His "constructs" as he calls them, are not necessarily buildings, but they are "the origins of how place might occur."
There will be an informal talk at 5:30 p.m., followed by an opening reception from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11. The public is invited to see the new exhibition and meet the artist.
