New Paintings: Amy Enkelman–Reed and Steven Wise

February 24 – June 30, 2007

This exhibition pairs works by St. Louis based artist Amy Enkelmann-Reed with Arkansas-based artist, Steven Wise. Graduate school classmates, Enkelmann-Reed and Wise both find affinity in bright colors and animated forms. In her paintings and drawings, Enkelmann-Reed deals with memory, nature and color relationships, weaving images from natural world within layers of painterly abstraction and patterned settings. Wise’s colorful compositions are created by the artist using a system of prescribed restrictions, formal limitations and themes, with an emphasis on material, texture and surface.

Amy Enkelmann-Reed studied art at The University of Oregon in Eugene, and at the Philadelphia College of Art. She earned her MFA in painting and printmaking from the University of Iowa. Her works have been exhibited in Chicago, Kansas City, Iowa City and St. Louis. Currently an Adjunct Faculty member at Webster University in Drawing and Design, her work exists in numerous private collections from Chicago to the California coast. Wise received his MFA from the University of Iowa, a B.A. from Swarthmore College and he also studied at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. His works have been exhibited in Missouri, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Tennessee and in England.

Opening Reception: Saturday, February 24, 5 – 7 p.m.
