Halleloujah!
A visual exploration of places of worship in St. Louis and
the metro area
Opening – Friday September 14th 5 – 8 pm
Sept. 14 – Oct 21
The idea for this show began with our love of
photographing churches. Photographers LOVE churches! And we are fortunate to
live in a city which is known as the Rome of the West. Founded by French
Catholics and named after a thirteenth-century king who was later canonized,
St. Louis’ churches are among its most beautiful landmarks - they tell the
stories of its citizens and their appreciation for art and incredible
architecture. Once we began discussing the topic of community and
religion however, we knew we wanted to include as many different faiths as
possible. All these different congregations and religions share a sense of
hope, caring and assistance for others in the community. These different places
of worship are visually beautiful and filled with history. So as photographers,
we happily set about exploring our city and metro area. We quickly realized
what a HUGE project this was, so only a few locations were selected for each
photographer. We were warmly welcomed at every place we photographed, and special
thanks to the people who took time from their day to allow us access into these
sacred spaces. Information is also provided next to a few photos to tell a bit
of history, and the role these congregations play in the community. We hope you
enjoy this small slice of a very huge part of our metro area. And we hope
you find the things in common that bind us all together.
