Cecille R Hunt Gallery: Friday, 15 May 2015
Because
We Can; A Charity Photo Exhibition of Cell Phone Photography
Friday
May 15th, 2015 from 5 to 9pm
“Because We CAN,” a photography exhibition / silent auction benefitting the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network
(BCAN), will be held Friday,
May 15, 2015 at the Cecille
R. Hunt Gallery
at Webster University, 8342 Big Bend Blvd, 63119 from 5 to 9pm.
This is a juried exhibition of photos taken with cell
phones and other smart devices by
multiple artists. Photos on display
will be sold via silent auction, with all proceeds
going directly to assist
BCAN in its mission
to increase public
awareness, advance research, and provide education and support to bladder cancer patients and their families.
Bladder cancer is among the most commonly
diagnosed cancers, with 70,000 new cases diagnosed each year in the United
States. Begun in 2005, BCAN is the oldest
national advocacy organization devoted to bladder
cancer, operating through the combined efforts
of survivors, their families,
and caregivers.
Exhibition organizer Laura Renshaw saw firsthand
the impact of BCAN’s support programs
when her brother,
Jim, was diagnosed
in 2012. “He lived in Quakertown PA and I
was in Imperial
MO. I couldn’t be there for him and his
children. I felt helpless.
Now I want to support BCAN
because they were there for my brother and his family. BCAN
served as a support
group, giving them a chance to
grieve with people who had
gone through the same
thing. Now I want to give back to the Bladder
Cancer Advocacy Network.”
Doors for this one-night event open at
5:00 pm. Music
will be provided
by Jeff Hess of KDHX’s
“Afternoon Delight.” Light snacks
and beverages are provided
