Green Door art gallery: Friday, 28 March 2014

“In the Shadow of the Arch”
March 5, 2014 through April 26, 2014
Opening Reception: Friday, March 28, 2014  Time: 5– 9 p.m

“In the Shadow of the Arch” is a one-year visual exploration of something Garry McMichael has looked at almost every day for the past thirty years, and like many of his fellow St. Louisans, has largely taken for granted.  “In the Shadow of the Arch” is a multi-medium exploration starting with photography but also includes sketches, paintings in several mediums, and digital paintings created on an iPad or computer.  McMichael said his goal is to create a body of work depicting the Arch in such a manner as to encourage viewers to reacquaint themselves with what can only be described as one of the most beautiful sculptures of the 20th century. McMichael is a visual artist working in a variety of mediums.  It is his goal to show others, the world around them from an inspiring, somewhat different point of view.

To draw attention to the subjects he attempts to capture them during those fleeting moments when the atmospheric conditions and the ever-changing light come together in a flash of visual inspiration. It is at those moments that he attempts to turn everyday situations and objects into unforgettable imagery, be it in the form of a photograph or a painting.

McMichael states, “On rare occasions my art slips into the world of impressionism, but, because of my years as a commercial photographer, I am quite comfortable as a realist creating representational art.”

Also featured will be Tatyana Robberts’ plein air and Russia paintings along with her handcrafted batiks. For the past few years Tatyana Robberts has been doing mostly Plein Air painting in oil, but has been working in other media when the mood strikes.

Our hours are Wednesday thru Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm- Closed Monday and Tuesday
