Jo Jasper Dean’s painting technique combines the use of a centuries old traditional grisaille, with a contemporary color palette so enhanced it would test positive for steroids. Finding her inspiration in the natural environment, Dean adheres to the reality of defining the form of the subject she portrays but breaks free with an imaginative color palette of saturated and amplified colors. The interaction and tension between complementary colors detonates a visual explosion that is simultaneously stimulating and soothing to the viewer. More than two dozen of Dean’s supercharged oil paintings are on view at PHD Gallery from June 8 through July 20, 2013, with a free public reception for the artist on Saturday, June 8, from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M.
