Framations: Friday, 3 May 2013

New exhibits at Framations: "Touched by Violence" and "Portals" photography by Garry Rose
EXHIBIT INTRODUCES FRAMATIONS' ART AND AWARENESS SERIES.

The first of these exhibits introduces the Art and Awareness series of exhibits, beginning with the theme "Touched by Violence." This theme is meant to explore violence in our society and its weighty effects on us as individuals in our daily lives as well as our interactions and emotional response.  The artwork included in this exhibit explores reactions to many instances of violence, some personal and some on the national or international scale. The artwork will be displayed with the artists' statements which bring even more context  and insight. Framations encourages the public to take the time to view the work and also to read each of the statements to see how the artists were inspired and also what they hope the viewer will take away from the exhibit. A portion of sales from this exhibit will be donated to Backstoppers, who provide needed support to the families of fallen first responders.

Also on view "Portals," an exhibit of photography by Garry Rose that focuses our attention on the gateways and paths we take in life. Through his work, Rose asks "The portals that surround us speak to us. We just need to stop and listen. My goal for this exhibit is to get people to notice the portals around them. To stop and think - what were the people thinking and feeling when they built this? What were people thinking and feeling over the years, even through the present, as they use these portals?" Through this exhibit of black and white photography and the book that Rose has published of his images, he invites us to think of where we are, where we are going, and what we share with those that have gone before us.

Both of these exhibits will open Friday May 3 with a reception from 6-8pm. They will remain on display through June 6.
