Bryan Walsh: Syntax Error
Closing Reception Saturday, December 1, 2012 6 - 8pm

Bryan Walsh, Co-Owner of Aisle 1 Gallery and organizer of The Screwed Arts Collective, works in geometric abstraction. For Syntax Error, he created new paintings on found metal including flat panels and three-dimensional objects. Here, he spins the exhibition title’s meaning to refer instead to interpersonal and intrapersonal communication, both verbal and non-verbal. His work explores the relationships and colors of shapes and forms which exist within the same space: communicating, reacting, complementing or contrasting.

Somewhere between deliberately and unintentionally, Walsh amassed a collection of panels (many shelves in their former lives), assorted containers and metal detritus. This collection of objects on which he painted is as much a part of his creative process as the act of painting itself. Given the current market value for some metals, he also finds that even being able to collect so many metal objects is significant. The value of the work – both as unadorned scrap and as a transformed collection of art examining communication – is also a component of Syntax Error.
