Travis Lawrence: EMBLEMS
Book of Transformation
Friday, 1 June 2012, 6-10pm
Exhibiting through June 23, 2012
Influenced by the subtle use of symbol, Travis Lawrence uses printmaking to convey subconscious imagery through the form of multiples. Pulling inspiration from Jungian psychology and mythology, Travis presents iconic visuals shrouded in simplistic mystery.
The current body of woodcuts has taken its influence from medieval illuminated illustrations and alchemical manuscripts. Using the notion of emblems as a collective use of symbols, each iconic figure presents a still narrative where every detail is a metaphorical metamorphosis of the visual.
