Marbles Gallery: Saturday, 2 January 2010
Marbles Gallery exhibits `Landschap'– explorations in landscape photography and drawings by Christopher and Michael Lewis, through January. Stop by to share a glass of wine meet the talented Lewis brothers, living in Europe and home for the holidays.
Opening Reception Saturday, January 2nd from 6-9 p.m.
Free and open to the public
A visual learner, Christopher Lewis loves the ability of photography to focus attention and change perception. Using the digital camera enables Christopher to gain an appreciation for the phenomenal perceptual abilities of the human eye and brain as he uses his camera to capture "…what I think I'm seeing." He appreciates the power of images to shape individual and communal memory and to inform experience. Christopher Lewis lives and works in Italy and Germany where he researches the neuroscience of attention and learning. Through his life long passion for mountains, mathematics, traveling, friends and the future, he dedicates his time to finding the essential in a cluttered world.
Trained in architecture, Michael Lewis manifests in his drawings an interest in iteration and process as a means of investigation. By repeatedly exploring forms and landscapes as variations on shared themes, he allows the process of drawing itself and the medium of representation to inform and direct the evolution of his work. The absorption rates of various papers and viscosity of different brands of ink permit an element of controlled randomness within the work that allows unpredicted results to emerge and helps to guide the evolution of the series. These nuances in technique form the basis of his recent work. Michael, an avid wanderer, currently lives in London.
