Craft Alliance is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibit See How My Mind Works, from 6 – 8 p.m. on Friday, January 29 in Craft Alliance’s gallery in the Kranzberg Arts Center. The exhibition features Tim Curtis’ large-scale installation that explores the use of written language in visual art.

“Writing requires collaboration with the reader and both are private acts. But encountering someone’s private thoughts in a public space changes the dynamic,” states Curtis. In See How My Mind Works, Curtis presents an evolving body of work utilizing his text on handmade chalkboards that function as art objects. The walls of the gallery will be blanketed with the chalkboards from floor to ceiling, surrounding the viewer with the voices of Curtis’ internal dialogue. One of Curtis’ goals in this work is to create an environment that is inspired by his impression of early childhood classrooms where he experienced a monotonous, repetitive style of learning. Tim describes these writings as “aphorisms that vacillate between the humorous and the serious, many of which are sarcastic observations concerning the contradictory and/or petty nature of human behavior.”
