East Central College: Friday, 17 October 2008
Workshop & Exhibition
Tammy Marinuzzi and Pavel Amromin are ceramic artists with complementary senses of humor and irony, yet each has a completely different aesthetic and concept. They will combine efforts on Saturday, October 18, 2008 to conduct a workshop hosted by Krueger Pottery, following an opening reception for their exhibition at East Central College Gallery, AC161, 1964 Prairie Dell Rd., in Union, MO on Friday, October 17, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. (For further information about the opening, contact Jill Foote-Hutton, footehut@eastcentral.edu
636-583-5195, ext. 2259.
Marinuzzi utilizes illustrative, whimsical characters to explore the never-ending boundaries of the unstable human condition. Amromin, a native of Belarus, brings a darker, nervous energy to his refined figurines. He presents the contradictions between the virtuous public face of war and the hard reality of the individual soldier. Both bodies of work evoke a poetic smile and a simultaneous cringe in the viewer.
At the workshop Marinuzzi, working loose and wet, will guide attendees through the nuances and immediacy of wet slab work. She will also share her decorating techniques as she demonstrates her process of working with a richly saturated palette of colorful slips. Amromin will demonstrate the exacting technique of mold-making—trouble shooting and answering technical questions as he demystifies the oft-daunting task. Both artists will bring finished examples of their work for perusal.
The demonstration will begin at 10 a.m. in the Krueger Pottery Classroom located two doors down from our showroom at 8153 Big Bend Blvd. in Webster Groves. Participants will break for lunch at 12:30 p.m., and resume at 1 p.m. The workshop will conclude at 3:30 p.m. with a brief period for one-on-one Q & A and individual critiques. The exhibition of their work will be up October 17 – November 12, 2008 at East Central College in Union, MO. For more information call Krueger Pottery at 314-963-0180.
