Art Saint Louis: Saturday, 21 July 2007

Art Saint Louis, the premiere not-for-profit visual art organization & co-op art gallery in downtown St. Louis, presents “White Washed-Shades of White,” on view in the Gallery July 16 through August 23, 2007.

The public is invited to a free opening reception this Saturday, July 21, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. Mary Michelle Winery of Carrollton, IL will be our wine hosts for the evening.

This juried exhibit was open to artists 21+ residing in the St. Louis area &2 00-mile radius. For “White Washed-Shades of White,” artists were asked to submit artworks in all styles & media that "explore our culture’s fascination with concealing physical, psychological, social and/or emotional flaws, as well as artworks that demonstrate cover-ups or variations/degrees of white."

Serving as jurors for this exhibit were nationally exhibited artists Lisa Bulawsky, Associate Professor of Art, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, Washington University School of Art, St. Louis and Brian D. Smith, artist, Professor of Art, St. Charles Community College.

From 83 artworks in all media submitted by 53 artists for jurying, Bulawsky and Smith selected 40 artworks by 31 artists for the final exhibit. Works in a variety of media are presented, including ceramics, drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, and textiles. For exhibition highlights and installation views, visit

In addition to our opening reception, Art Saint Louis will participate in the August 3rd First Friday Downtown Gallery Walk with a free reception from 6-9 p.m.

Art Saint Louis is located in the heart of downtown St. Louis' Old Post Office District at 917 Locust Street (on Locust between 9th and 10th Streets). The Gallery is FREE & open to the public Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Sundays & holidays. Groups & tours welcome.
