Scott Petty: “Impressions” (Drawings & Oil Paintings)
 Exhibition: Nov. 1–28, 2015
Sunday Reception: 2–4 p.m., Nov. 1, 2015

Scott Petty quite often finds beauty in the mundane. His choice of subject matter is frequently an ordinary scene that might go unnoticed by others. An avid bike rider, Scott uses his rides as an opportunity to scout out locations for painting, returning later to capture the scene
in a drawing or an oil painting.

“The two groupings of recent paintings in my   Impressions exhibition reflect two of my longstanding painting interests. The first is landscapes, especially landscapes with bridges.
My second-favorite subject is people, and for this show I’ve selected unposed people gathered in common activities.

“In addition to my identity as an artist, I am an enthusiastic bicyclist, so I often use bicycling as a resource for my work. Some of the bridge paintings in this exhibition are of impressions from images
I snapped while riding my bicycle along the Riverfront Bicycle Trail.”

Componere Gallery: sunday, 1 November 2015

Omer Huremovic: “Survivors IV” (Tree Sculptures)

Sunday Reception: 2–4 p.m., Nov. 1, 2015
Exhibition: Nov. 1–28, 2015

Explaining the inspiration for his artistic creations that resonate deeply with viewers, Omer says, “My work bears shadows of my past. Experiences in my native Bosnia and Herzegovina––a country plagued by war and destruction––sparked my desire to give shape to the wonders of nature.”

“My fascination with trees became the overriding inspiration and key component in my visual vocabulary. In my trees––made of electrical copper wire, aluminum welding wire and rocks that I find or that are given to me by friends and family who support my artistic efforts––I strive to create the sensual, delicate yet strong, dynamic curves that mirror nature’s bountiful manifestations.

“In the past year, I have broadened my focus beyond trees to include wall sculptures and accessories such as clocks and vases. These pieces––made of scrap steel, aluminum and copper and often containing a high gloss–– provide an even greater opportunity for me  to express my artistry. Like my trees, they draw in and reflect a changing light, creating shadows and encouraging contemplation
of the contrasts that surround us.”

Kranzberg Arts Center: Friday, 20 November 2015

FiftyOneBowie - Portraits by Mark Dethrow
Closing Reception November 20 / 6 – 9p

The Kranzberg Arts Center cordially invites you to a final night of rock n' roll revelry as only the iconic David Bowie could inspire. Join us for a night of music, cocktails, and your final opportunity to take home a piece of this unforgettable retrospective.  This is also your last chance to peer into the creative mind behind FiftyOneBowie when artist Mark Dethrow speaks about his work and process.

Fifty-one years ago, iconic rocker David Bowie released his first single, “Liza Jane,” under the name Davy Jones and The King Bees.  Since then, Bowie has proven himself to be one of the most visually fascinating figures of our time.

With FiftyOneBowie, St. Louis based artist Mark Dethrow draws inspiration from the wealth of source material that has captured the chameleon performer over the course of his career. Expertly “borrowing” from concert photography and album covers, Dethrow has created fifty-one portraits that honor both Bowie and the many artists who have immortalized him

October 23 — December 12, 2015

Opening Reception - Friday, October 23, 5:00 - 8:00 PM
Duane Reed Gallery is pleased to present the sculptural works of John Garrett. John Garrett was raised in southern New Mexico, influenced by Native American arts and crafts. His intrigue with the tools, systems and materials involved in weaving and other textile constructions were nurtured and developed through courses with Neda Al-Hilali and Marion Stewart. Garrett’s work is an engrossing exploration in tactile intricacies through repetition of form, while simultaneously providing the viewer with a myriad of textures and colors to explore.

October 23 — December 12, 2015

Opening Reception - Friday, October 23rd, 5:00 - 8:00 PM
Duane Reed Gallery proudly presents the intricate oil paintings of Nancy Newman Rice.  Nancy Newman Rice states about her work:  “In my paintings, the viewer observes but does not enter as the confusion of space is meant for contemplation rather than adventure...My influences...extend to architectural drawings, the girders of anticipated buildings and especially scaffolding that fills those spaces. They are skeletons and place holders which define spatial containment, and are evidence of the sacred geometry that is the armature of empirical experience.” Rice’s work is deeply experiential, utilizing overlaid images that provide the viewer with a hypnotizing perspective; her paintings transcend time as one is able to view progression from conception to finalization as a singular moment.
